Every year it becomes
more difficult to shop for a used car. Prices have been at historic highs, even
for models with high mileage and seemingly excessive wear. And with so many
vehicles from which to choose, it can feel overwhelming to find a car that drives
well and will hold up down the road.
Consumer Reports has recently
completed a study for which cars they would recommend to their friends and
family. These cars proved to have above-average reliability compared to their
competitors. We are proud to say that this list included 2 Hyundai models, the
Sonata (2007-2008) and the Elantra (2012-2013). And when it came to the list of worst used vehicles, no Hyundai models were to be found!

Santa Fe best car for money

Hyundai’s highly-acclaimed 2014 Santa Fe adds another award to its trophy case today after being named the Best Car for the Money in the 3-Row Midsize SUV segment, by U.S. News & World Report. The 2014 Best Car for the Money awards highlight cars in 21 automotive categories – from subcompact to full size pickup trucks – that offer great value and have received critical acclaim.

“Finding a great deal on a vehicle doesn’t have to mean settling for the cheapest option,” said Jamie Page Deaton, managing editor, U.S. News & World Report. “Automotive writers who have tested the Santa Fe appreciate its long list of up-to-date tech features, refined performance, upscale cabin and extremely comfortable seats. As a whole package, the Santa Fe provides excellent automotive value without sacrificing what makes a vehicle great in the first place.”

U.S. News considered 225 cars for the Best Cars for the Money awards. The award methodology factors quality and value data into a composite score. Within each of the 21 categories, the vehicle with the highest composite score was named the Best Car of the Year in that category. For a complete list of this year’s winners, visit http://www.usnews.com/info/blogs/press-room.

“When re-designing the Santa Fe, we wanted to break out of the unexciting mold that had long-plagued the midsize SUV segment,” said Scott Margason, director, Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “By offering our customers what they really want – the newest technologies as standard, bold design, class-leading safety features and the industry’s best warranty – the Santa Fe is poised to become the new archetype for 3-row midsize SUVs.”

The 2014 Santa Fe is a new breed of crossover with multiple trims, all-new powertrains and several segment exclusive features. A “Fluidic Sculpture” design gives the third generation Santa Fe the impact of constant motion while opulent interior features offer world-class comfort and amenities. New for 2014 are such safety features as Blind Spot Detection (BSD) and rear parking assistance as well as premium features including new 18-inch wheels, HID headlights, and ventilated front seats.

Hyundai with More “Loved” Vehicles than Any Other Brand

In celebration of Valentine’s Day, the Hyundai Elantra GT, Sonata, Genesis, Equus, and Santa Fe have all been named to Strategic Vision’s list of the “Most Loved Vehicles in America.” With five “loved” cars, Hyundai has more than any other brand. This report, from research-based consultancy Strategic Vision, demonstrates how hard people can fall in love with the cars they drive.

These five Hyundai vehicles ranked “Most Loved” in their respective segments as rated by new vehicle buyers: Small Multi-Function Car (Elantra GT), Mid-Size Car (Sonata), Near-Luxury Car (Genesis), Luxury Car (Equus), and Mid-Size CUV (Santa Fe). Not only did Equus win its category, but it was also the second highest scoring vehicle overall, behind only the Tesla Model S.

“Hyundai owners really love their cars,” said Alexander Edwards, president, Strategic Vision. “They had more segment winners in cars than any other brand and Hyundai’s Equus premium sedan finished second overall. ‘Love’ should be on any brand’s internal scorecard and is the pinnacle of achievement. Hyundai’s results demonstrate its commitment to customers and in turn their loyalty.”

“Love” scores are calculated using attributes delivered by the vehicle and the dealership experiences – commitment, overall satisfaction, total top emotional responses, proposed repurchase loyalty and actual repurchase loyalty – to provide a Most Loved Index™. Scores range from 1-1,000 and each point is measured on The Edwards Commitment Scale™ which discriminates the quality and depth of the emotional response ranging from “Hate it” to “Love it”.

“Hyundai owners truly love their cars, so it’s no surprise that these five vehicles are being recognized by Strategic Vision,” said Scott Margason, director, product planning, Hyundai Motor America. “Hyundai continues to provide value that customers love, offering highest-quality products with strong styling cues and packed with premium technologies and safety features.”

Hyundai’s 2014 line-up has something for everyone to love. From the roomy and capable Santa Fe to the stylish Sonata and the high-tech, all-new 2015 Genesis, Hyundai continues to offer customers the quality vehicles they want.

Early Sneak Peek of 2015 Sonata

Hyundai has just released a 2014 Sonata mid-size sedan in the USA.

For the 2014 model year, the popular Sonata
received minor exterior styling updates and more convenience features.

The mid-cycle facelift should make the
carmaker’s second best-selling model in the USA even more appealing and
attractive to the U.S. shoppers.

The big news today, however, is not the 2014
Sonata, but rather the next-generation model that has been spotted testing in
the USA and Korea.

Just recently, the automobile spies have
caught testing a heavily camouflaged prototype in the wild and that appears to
be the next-generation Hyundai Sonata.

We have learned that the next generation
Sonata mid-size sedan will be launched next year as a 2015 model.

As evident from the spy pic here, the 2015 Sonata will adopt redesigned sheet metal, along with
completely redesigned front and rear fascias.

The next-generation model is also likely to
get several changes inside and will also incorporate various high-tech
features.

The engine specification is rumored to remain
the same, however the powertrain will be tweaked to offer higher performance
and provide better fuel economy figures.

The 2015 Hyundai Sonata is expected to be
launched in the USA in the fourth-quarter of 2014.

You may know less about car buying than you think you do!

There are way too many myths about car dealers to address in one article, but I thought I would give it a shot, to call attention to some of the most common misconceptions.

Financing is cheaper outside the dealership. Not always the case. Dealers have a lot of sources for financing, and often they have lenders competing for the best rate for you. It’s a good idea to know what you can get on your own, but often the dealer can offer a rate as low as zero percent.

Don’t tell the dealer you have a trade until the end. Generally, this just slows the process. You don’t want the dealer playing games with you; don’t play games with them. Your trade-in is worth the same no matter when you reveal it.

The end of the month is the best time to buy. Generally, this is true. Dealers, managers and salespeople push harder the final week of any month. Everyone in the car business has a goal to reach, and the end of the month is crunch time.

Dealers never lose money on a new vehicle. They wish! Many dealers take deep losses on vehicles often. It might be on a demo, a vehicle that has been in stock too long or a designated loss-leader, but it happens way more than you think.

If I know what the dealer paid for the vehicle, I can get a better deal. There is some truth in this one. It is easier to negotiate from dealer invoice up, than it is from MSRP down. Offering the dealer a decent profit can get you a fair deal quicker and with less hassle. Starting at dealer invoice and going down will end in total frustration for the buyer.

Going through the Internet manager is always cheaper. Internet managers are salespeople who can type. Most of the time, their job is to get you into the showroom to go through the normal process of purchasing.

Paying cash always saves money. Not true. Many times it can actually cause you to pay more. There are extra incentives often for financing with a captive lender such as Ford Credit or Toyota Financial. You can often take $1,000 or more off the sales price.

Buy on a rainy day. Seriously? Dealers need to sell cars every day; the weather makes no difference whatsoever.

Dealers need to move the old models out when the new models start to arrive. This is absolutely true. Dealers make it a mission to move out old inventory. There is a saying in the business: “Cars are not like wine; they don’t get better with age.” The dealers know the longer they have a car in inventory, the less profit it makes or the bigger the loss. Also, there are often factory-to-dealer hidden incentives that they can use to make the deals better.

There are a lot of “experts” out there that give you advice on car buying; unfortunately, a lot of that information is false or often outdated. If you use such advice, it can make car buying unnecessarily difficult and can even cause you to pay too much for your next car

HYUNDAI TURBO R-SPEC MODEL JOINS VELOSTER LINE-UP

New R-Spec Model Provides a More Focused Performance
Package for Tuners and Enthusiasts

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 20, 2013 – Hyundai today announced the
addition of the Veloster Turbo R-Spec to its line-up at the Los Angeles Auto
Show. The heart of the R-Spec is the responsive, aftermarket-tunable 1.6-liter,
direct-injected, turbocharged engine, along with unique design cues, enhanced
chassis tuning, a B&M Racing® Sport Shifter, and the lowest price point in
the Veloster Turbo lineup. R-Spec production will begin in December 2013 with
availability in early February 2014.

Veloster Turbo R-Spec is the fourth R-Spec model in Hyundai’s lineup,
following in the footsteps of Genesis Coupe 2.0T R-Spec, Genesis Coupe 3.8
R-Spec and Genesis 5.0 R-Spec. R-Spec represents the ultimate performance
version of each of these models. For Veloster Turbo R-Spec, sport suspension and
steering settings have been retuned for optimum responsiveness, with higher
spring rates and a more rigid transmission mount. On the powertrain side, R-Spec
is available only with the 6-speed manual transmission, and a short-throw
B&M Sport Shifter has been added for a tighter, more direct shift feel.

2014 Veloster Turbo R-Spec
Highlights

  • Unique R-Spec suspension and steering tuning for enhanced agility and
    feel
  • 6-speed close-ratio manual transmission with new shift knob design
  • Short-throw B&M Racing® Sport Shifter for a tighter, high-precision
    shift feel
  • Red exterior accents on front splitter and side blades (optional; later
    availability)
  • Red leatherette bolsters with red/black cloth insert sport seats (in lieu of
standard leather on other Veloster Turbo models)
  • R-Spec embroidered-logo floor mats and R-Spec exterior badging
  • Lowest MSRP Veloster Turbo model: $22,110, including $810 destination
    charge

“We’re thrilled to add the Veloster Turbo R-Spec to our growing family of
enthusiast-oriented R-Spec models”, said Scott Margason, director, product
planning, Hyundai Motor America. “The R-Spec takes the Veloster theme of
affordable performance to an entirely new level that is sure to appeal to
driving enthusiasts.”

On the exterior, R-Spec adds a sporty red-accented front splitter and side
blades, with R-Spec badging on the rear hatch. Inside, red leatherette bolsters
with red/black cloth insert sport seats complement special embroidered-logo
R-Spec floor mats for a sporty ambience. Veloster Turbo R-Spec will be available
in four colors: Elite White, Ultra Black, Marathon Blue, and exclusively for
2014 Veloster, Sprint Gray.

In keeping with its purist driving focus, some standard equipment from the
Turbo model has been deleted from the R-Spec, such as proximity-key entry with
push-button start, premium gauge cluster, side-repeater mirrors, driver’s
auto-up window, high-gloss interior cues and full-faced heated leather
seats.

Adding to the focused driving experience for all 2014 Veloster Turbo R-Spec
and Turbo models is Torque Vectoring Control (TVC). This active cornering
feature, utilizing capabilities from the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and
powertrain control systems, improves dynamic cornering during more enthusiastic
driving. TVC uses wheel-speed sensors coupled with ESC algorithms to apply
precise braking force to the inside front wheel during spirited cornering. This
active braking redirects power to the outside front wheel in the turn, reducing
wheelspin, for enhanced cornering grip and corner-exit acceleration. Overall,
TVC provides Veloster Turbo R-Spec drivers with an incremental margin of
cornering precision during enthusiastic driving.

Inside the cabin, 2014 Veloster Turbo R-Spec and Turbo models receive Active
Sound Design (later availability), which provides richer in-cabin powertrain
resonance for an even more involving driving experience, especially during
spirited driving.

The 2013 gold medal was awarded to local Riverside, California Hyundai

mechanical and written evaluations. Steve Picket from Ed Voyles Hyundai in
Smyrna, Georgia and Aronn Walters from Regional Hyundai in Broken Arrow,
Oklahoma received Excellent Skills medals, recognizing their strong overall

training they need to deliver quality service.”

In 2013, a total of 145 participants including 87 specialists from 54
countries gathered at Hyundai Motor’s Technical Center in Korea to perform their
latest techniques in an Olympic-style competition. The competition includes
